LOOKING FOR A GREAT PLACE TO VOLUNTEER?

 
 

Volunteering is a great way to get involved with LEDC's strong

initiatives  and to make new friends. Be a part of a positive change within your community  by volunteering at LEDC.

 

There are 3 different ways to volunteer at LEDC: Events, programs, and special projects or assignments

VOLUNTEER LEVEL 1: EVENTS

 

Requirements: This level does not require any special training or special skills. Also, long term commitment is not required.

Time: One or two days.

  • Día de Reyes: This is a Latino celebration where LEDC gives more than 600 presents to kids of different cultures and backgrounds.  (January 6 of every year) (15 volunteers needed)
  • LEDC's Annual Membership meeting: We celebrate in the company of our members, board of directors, partners, special guests and staff at our annual meeting. (Second week of May 2008) (15 volunteers needed)
  • Dia de Muertos: The Day of the Dead is a tradition where the Latino community celebrates the memory our loved ones who have passed on. We have an “Altares”(Altars) competition, plays, and music. (November 1st and 2nd 2008) (5 volunteers needed)
  • Dia de la Hispanidad: We celebrate the independence of several Latino countries, with concerts, activities and food at the Global Market. (First week of October) (15 volunteers needed)

 

  • Other social projects to help other organizations
 
 

 

VOLUNTEER LEVEL 2: PROGRAMS

 

Requirements: Skilled volunteers are needed at this level. These volunteers should make a commitment for a specific period of time. Specific days and times should be scheduled. Students and other professionals are encouraged to apply.

Time: Please contact the Programs Coordinator for more details.

  • Computer: Basic modules to learn how to use a computer, specially Microsoft office and internet.  (modules 1,2,3 y 4)  (8 volunteers)
    • 2 Basic computer literacy trainings (March and August ,each module is 4 weeks.)
    • 2 Computer, Internet and communication modules (explorer and e-mail) (April and September, each module is 2 weeks.)
    • 2 Computer and Finance modules (excel) (May and Octuber, 2 weeks each module.)
    • 2 Computer and marketing materials design (Publisher)(June and November, 2 weeks each module.)
  • English for Customer Service.  (2 volunteers)
    • 2 English for Customer Service modules (May, October, 8 weeks each module)
  • Other workshops (2 volunteers)
    • To be determined at a later date.
 
 

 

VOLUNTEER LEVEL 3: SPECIAL PROJECTS AND ASSIGNMENTS

 

Requirements: Volunteers’ work is defined by task and specific objectives.

Time: There is not a specific schedule and the skills level requirements varies depending on the project.

 

  • Research
    • 1. Conduct Surveys: Feasibility study to gather information about the Health Care conditions in the Latino community in Minnesota. How many Latino businesses are there across the state?  What is the magnitude of their purchasing power if they were to unite to form a coalition to buy health insurance?  Is there a price that makes insurance affordable for the majority of Latino business owners?  
  • Updating Database (1 volunteer)
    • 1. Update LEDC’S Electronic Directory: The volunteer will have to contact LEDC's members and update the information in our Web Site. We will provide training in using the software (Macromedia Contribute).
    • 2. Update LEDC's general website  
  • Develop informational materials (2 volunteers)
    • 1. Review and develop the written material for the volunteer program.
    • 2. To develop a database for the volunteer program (excel or access).
    • 3. Latino Scholarship Fund promotional materials designer.
  • Web Site updates (1 volunteer)

                  1. Review and update LEDC's web site. We are requiring a native English  

                       speaker to review the English version of the website. It is not required to know how to use the software to edit the website.

  • Other Special task as requested for the Staff. (2 volunteers)
    • 1. For <arketing Students: Work with clients to create their marketing plan, business cards, logos and flyers.
